src: cdn1.medicalnewstoday.com

Periorbital puffiness , also known as "puffy eyes" , or swelling around the eyes , is the appearance of swelling in the tissue at around the eyes, called orbit. Almost exclusively due to fluid buildup around the eyes, or periorbital edema . Small bloat is usually only detectable under the eyes (although sometimes can be around) often called eye bags . As temporary swelling differs from age-related and gradual increase in fat pad sizes lies beneath the lower eyelid (suborbicularis oculi fat - "SOOF") which can also be colloquially referred to as eye bags .

Cause

While some degree of swelling may be normal for certain individuals, factors such as age and fatigue may make the swelling more prominent. The most periorbital tissue feels swollen immediately after waking, possibly due to the redistribution of the gravity of the fluid in a horizontal position.

Eye bags can also be caused by:

  • Mononucleosis - With supra-orbital edema, the eyes become swollen and swollen. This may occur in the early stages of the infection.
  • Lack of sleep - disturbed sleep cycle is a common cause of eye bags.
  • Fluid retention - Many conditions (including pregnancy and hormonal variations with menstruation) can cause fluid retention, especially in subcutaneous tissue. This condition can cause swelling around the eyes become more prominent. (This cause can be partially reduced by lifting the head of one's bed.)
  • Diet - Too much sodium diet encourages fluid retention and can cause puffy eyes.
  • Alcohol and tobacco use - Alcohol and tobacco can cause stress, fatigue, and hormonal changes; all of which can cause fluid retention and swelling around the eyes.
  • Allergies - Allergic reactions can cause leakage in subcutaneous capillary beds that can cause swelling of the face, including around the eyes.
  • Skin disorders - Eyelids can be a side effect of certain skin disorders, such as dermatitis, if the affected area becomes very sensitive, causing swelling.
  • Normal aging - As people get older, the skin around the eyes becomes thinner and may swell or droop. Further gradual and generally substantial improvement in suborbicularis oculi pad fat size along with thinning and weakening of the muscles above contribute to a clear abnormality of the lower eyelid.
  • Crying - Salt crying can cause fluid retention in the eye area.
  • Hypothyroidism and Hyperthyroidism - Face swelling and periorbital swelling occur due to infiltration with hyaluronic acid mucopolysaccharides and chondroitin sulfate, drawing fluid into the interstitial space with osmosis.
  • Periorbital cellulitis - Inflammation and infection of the eyelid and the skin around the eyes.
  • Blepharochalasis - An immune-mediated inflammation characterized by exacerbation and remission of eyelid edema that results in stretch and eyelid atrophy of the eyelid tissue, leading to excessive fold formation above the eyelid margin. It usually affects only the upper eyelid, and may be unilateral as well as bilateral.
  • Chagas Disease - Also known as American trypanosomiasis. Young patients, often in the acute phase of the disease, show a sign of RomeÃÆ' a: unilateral periorbital edema, not painful ,.
  • Nephrotic syndrome - Bloating around the eyes is the first swollen site
  • Trichinosis - Periorbital edema, fever, and muscle pain are the main symptoms of eating infected raw pork.
  • Tear glands - Bloating around the eyes can also be caused by improper tear gland function.
  • Superior vena cava obstruction.
  • Sinner sinus syndrome polneuropathy.

Remedies

For someone who is prone to eye bags, dietary changes and lifestyle (under the supervision of a doctor) may be necessary to reduce the likelihood of swelling.

Cold compress near the eyes can act as a short-term drug because the cold temperature constricts blood vessels, prevents fluid flow to the tissues and reduces the sac on the process.

Prevention

Lifting the head during sleep may prevent the redistribution of the fluid-related fluid from eye swelling. A low carbohydrate diet can prevent puffy eyes by preventing water retention. Eating foods rich in vitamins, especially A, C and E, helps reduce eye bags and maintain crisp and moist skin.
