Gameplay
The game aspect is a traditional head-to-head fighting game. But unlike most games of its kind, single-player mode is limited to one character, Joe, who is the protagonist of the game. One of the most distinctive aspects of the game is a RPG-like system that allows players to enhance Joe's various attributes, such as strength, speed, and endurance. Another gimmick is the use of a two-plane battle area (similar to SNK Fatal Fury: King of Fighters ).

Version differences
- Regardless of the name difference for the Genesis and Super NES versions, there is no real difference in gameplay, content, or characters. However, it is widely believed that the game box and title enclosures are simply replaced to follow Nintendo's non-violent rigorous policy, since the Genesis version features a closeup of characters beaten on the face, with bursts of blood erupting from impact. The Super NES version package displays the same image, with red blood again colored like sweat.
- Ranker, the last boss of the game can only be played in the Genesis version.
- Although the version of Genesis/Mega Drive known as Deadly Moves shows a bloody cover, no blood or dead movement in any form in the game.
- The US magazine ads for this game, while detailing its features, do not show the actual screenshots of the game, but are drawn roughly that do not resemble the game at all.
