In press
In 2013, the network started showing reality show Are You More Sharp From Boy Scouts? . The National Geographic Channel was criticized for their relationship with the Boy Scouts of America, an organization that, until a May vote that annulled its ban, banned open gay members.
Archaeologists have protested that National Geographic shows like Diggers and Nazi War Diggers promote the looting and destruction of archaeological sites by promoting metal works that detect souvenir hunters and billable dealers. In 2013, the National Geographic Channel triggered a storm of controversy with its reality show Digger . The professional archaeologist of the Society for Historical Archeology, the largest scientific group concerned with modern-day archeology (A.D. 1400-present), has unanimously criticized the network for promoting the theft of cultural material on public and private lands. The Nazi War Diggers show is accused of showing unscientific and disrespectful human handling. Promotional quotes from a merchant of military relics, "I feel that by selling Nazi related items and for a lot of money, I preserve things the museum does not want to handle," was removed from the channel website in March 2014. National Geographic expressed regret over how the series was presented by its own website but stated that many allegations against the series were based on false information. The program was later withdrawn from the schedule while National Geographic reviewed the allegations against the series. The show was repackaged, amid controversy, as Battlefield Recovery for air during 2016 on Channel 5 in the UK.
