Talk Is Cheap is the debut solo album by Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, released in 1988. Recorded and released during a long bicker with Mick Jagger, Talk Is Cheap received a positive review after it was released.

The relationship between Jagger and Richards had been strained into the third decade of the Rolling Stones when they began to disagree on the band's musical direction; "You Do not Move Me" will be written about their enmity. The image-sensitive jagger is keen to follow the trend and keep the Rolling Stones current, while Richards wants to maintain their reputation and roots. When Jagger was more interested in pursuing his solo career than the tour for Dirty Work in 1986, Richards started his solo project for the first time.

Richards teamed up with Steve Jordan, who has worked in Dirty Work, and the couple wrote several new songs. One of them, "Almost Hear You Sigh", will be placed on Rolling Stones' Steel Wheels in 1989 (with lyrical modifications by Jagger). Recording began in August 1987 at Le Studio in Morin Heights, Quebec, and continued sporadically until next May with a visit to Montserrat and Bermuda. To assert his independence further, Richards signed a contract with Virgin Records, while the Rolling Stones were contracted by Sony Music (they followed him to Virgin in 1993).

The core of the band, called X-Pensive Winos, consists of Waddy Wachtel, Ivan Neville, Charley Drayton and Steve Jordan, with many guest artists taking part in the recording, including Sarah Dash, Bootsy Collins, Maceo Parker, Memphis Horns and Patti Scialfa , and the only musician from the Stones appeared, guitarist Mick Taylor. The results then appeared which included an eight-minute version of "Struggle" and two bait on "Almost Hear You Sigh", as well as two unreleased jams, 14 minutes "She Put the Mark on Me" and 12 minutes "Breakin '".

Released in October 1988, Talk Is Cheap was greeted with critical acclaim (some half-jokingly reviews call it the best Rolling Stones album in years) and peak at No. 1. 37 in the UK and No. 24 in the US, where it goes to gold.

"Make No Mistake" was later featured in an episode of The Sopranos and on the soundtrack album 2001 The Sopranos: Peppers & Egg: Music from the Original HBO Series .
