Reason for cleaning floor

The main reasons for cleaning floors are:

  • To prevent injury from tripping or slipping. Injuries due to slips and travel on the level floor are the main cause of accidental injury or death. Bad practice in cleaning the floor itself is a major cause of accidents.
  • To beautify the floor.
  • To remove stains, dirt, litter and obstructions.
  • To remove sand and sand that scratch and damage the surface.
  • To remove allergens, especially dust.
  • To prevent surface wear (eg using floor wax or protective cover).
  • To make the environment sanitary (for example in the kitchen).
  • To maintain optimal traction (eg for dance flooring).

Floor cleaning method

The treatment required for different types of flooring is very different.

Slipping is a common safety hazard for cleaning methods involving water or other liquids, especially if the floor is left wet.

Sawdust is used on several floors to absorb any liquid that falls rather than preventing it from spilling. Sawdust was swept and replaced every day. This is common in the past in pubs and is still used in some butchers and fishmongers.

It used to be common to use tea leaves to collect dirt from the carpet and remove odors. It is still very common to use diatomaceous earth, or even cat feces material, to remove infestations from the floor.

There are also a wide variety of floor cleaning machines available today such as floor buffers, floor cleaners and automatic floor sweepers, and carpet extractors that can clean almost any type of hard floor or carpet floor surface in much less time than required using traditional cleaning methods.

Wooden floor

Different types of wooden flooring may require completely different treatments depending on whether they are waxed, oiled or have a polyurethane coating. It is important to determine the type of wood floor finishing and always treat it in an appropriate way, for example, it is difficult to clean the wooden floor from the floor covered with polyurethane. Simple cleaning instructions:

  1. Clean any easily removable floor furniture.
  2. Sweep or spill out all the dirt and debris that goes away.
  3. Shake the floor, go along with the grain. For polyurethane coated floors, wet the mop with water and a few drops of dishwashing liquid. Be sure to ring the mop thoroughly before using it on the floor. Run the mop forward and back, do it with wood grain with a smooth sweep. Do not use water for lacquered flooring or wrinkles, because it can stain the wood and cause buckling.
  4. Rub the floor with a soft cloth to remove any residual soap. Cloth diapers work well for rubbing because it is very soft and absorb.

Tiles and Burt

Tiles and stone floors are common in kitchens, stairs, and bathrooms. The cleaning process can be divided into three steps:

  1. Dirt or dust must be removed first with a vacuum cleaner or broom.
  2. Have a floor cleaning solution or a spray bottle for the appropriate floor. If you clean the stone floors (marble, granite, travertine, etc.), make sure the cleaning agent declares that it is for stone. Acid tile cleaning solution can be used on tile and porcelain floor
  3. After spraying a tile or a stone floor in a small area, use a mop to clean and scrub the floor.

Vinyl Composite Tiles

Vinyl or VCT composite tiles are a common commercial flooring type. This type of floor cleaning is done with a mop and bucket or with a floor scrubber. VCT requires polymer coating or floor coverings to protect it. It should be kept clean by wiping dust and wet cleaning. (ie wet swabs or floor scrubbers)

Reduce the need to clean

Well-maintained door surfaces can reduce the need to clean up dramatically. For public buildings and offices, about 80 to 90% of the dirt is tracked from the outside. Installing a total of 15 feet of webbing consisting of the inside and outside of the room will remove about 80% of this. Thus about two thirds of the dirt can be moved at the entrance.
