Histori
Pond's Cream was found in the United States as a patent drug by pharmacist Theron T. Pond (1800-1852) from Utica, New York, in 1846. Pond took the healing tea from the witch hazel Hamamelis spp.] That he found could heal minor wounds and other diseases. The product was named "Golden Treasure." After Theron died, it would be known as "Pond Extract."
In 1849, T. T. Pond Company was formed with Pond and other investors. Soon after, he sold his share of the company because his health failed. He died in 1852. In 1914, the company was founded under the name of Pond's Extract Company.
The company then moved to Connecticut to build a manufacturing center there. Then move the sales office to New York City.
In 1886, Pond's began to advertise nationally. They were advertised under the name of Pond's Healing until 1910.
In the twentieth century, the main emphasis of the company was to sell cosmetic products. The "Pond's Vanishing Cream" and "Pond's Cold Cream" were created, marking the entrance of Pond products into the facial care industry. Today Pond's is sold all over the world. The largest markets are in Spain and in Asia, including India, Japan, and Thailand.
1910s
In 1910, Pond's was a well established brand among Americans. Concentrating on their vanishing creams, Pond's company started an advertising campaign that would become famous for the celebrities involved in it. "Pond's Healing" takes the place behind for "Pond's Vanishing Cream", as "Pond's Healing" and "Pond's Cold Cream" will be announced in a small print under the advertisement "Pond's Vanishing Cream".
In 1914, the term "Healing Pond" was taken from advertising, and Pond's company began to advertise "Pond's Vanishing Cream" and "Pond's Cold Cream" together, making sure to explain the purpose of each of the different creams on the new ad. One line of a particular ad reads "Every normal skin needs two of these creams".
As a result of the new campaign, "Pond's Vanishing Cream" increased sales by 60% during 1915, and "Pond's Cold Cream" increased 27%.
1920s
By 1922, product sales had fallen, as many believed that an easily available product could not function as well as other "designer" products. Therefore, the Pond Company then targets nobles, politicians, and high-class people to become an advertiser for the company. In addition, these ads are printed in magazines like Vogue and others, to give customers the feeling that they are really getting quality products at a fair price.
In 1923, Queen Marie of Romania visited the United States, and she enjoyed the product so much that in 1925 she wrote to the Pond Plant requesting more supplies. His letter, in turn, is used for advertising, and His Excellency joins the list of celebrities who have previously sponsored the product.
Around the time of Queen Marie's visit to the United States, Pond's Company began placing samples of their products in their magazine ads, and the characters "Peter" and "Polly Ponds" were created, as part of their campaign to persuade normal people. people buy their cream again. The marketing strategy proved successful, as the sales of Pond's face cream rose again.
"Peter" and "Polly Ponds" disappeared from the company's advertising campaign after 1925.
1930s
During the Depression Era of the 1930s, the company's business slowed somewhat. However, Pond's company expanded slowly, adding Face Powder and Angel Face products.
First merge
Pond's Company was merged in 1955 with the Chesebrough Manufacturing Company, which has a good percentage of brands in the field of facial care. With this merger, "Pond's Creams" became a sister with the Cutex nail polish brand and Matchabelli perfume.
With Chesebrough Manufacturing Company as commander, "Pond's Creams" is available in many supermarkets across the United States. The bottle of cream consists of a small glass bottle with a round lid. The bottles can be identified by their distinctive colors, usually green, blue or white. The bottle design is still used by Pond's brand.
Second merge
In 1987, Chesebrough Manufacturing Company known as "Chesebrough-Ponds", purchased by the Anglo-Dutch company Unilever, provided "Pond's Creams" a more international reach. Furthermore, 14% of companies are privately traded to Bhosle Group of Industries for an undisclosed amount of money.
