Trichomycosis: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment
src: www.healthline.com

Trichobacteriosis axillaris is a colonization of superficial bacteria from the hair shaft in the sweat-bearing region of the sweat gland, such as the armpits and groin. It is a trivial disease of events worldwide that are believed to be caused by the genus Corynebacteria .

This condition has been widely referred to trichomycosis axillary in the literature, but because it is a bacterial infection and not a fungal infection, it should be called trichobacteriosis .

Presentations

It is characterized by a concrete presence along the hair shaft, clinically observed as yellow, and rarely as a red or black nodule. This concretion is derived from bacterial colonization along the hair shaft containing dry apocrine sweat with a cementating agent produced by bacteria.

Cause

This is due to several species of Corynebacterium .

Obesity, hyperhidrosis, poor local hygiene, and a warm and humid environment are common predisposing factors.

Diagnosis

Infection is diagnosed by close examination of the hair shaft in which a brown to yellow material called a concrete is seen. Usually there is a rancid odor related. Microscopic examination may confirm the diagnosis, but this is rarely necessary.

Some patients with excessive sweating present what are called corynebacterial triases, ie, the presence of simultaneous trichobacteriosis axillary, erythrasma, and keratolysis pitted.

Treatment

No specific therapeutic studies of trichobacteriosis are available.

Many authors consider that the most effective treatment is to shave the affected area for a period of 2-3 weeks. The use of concurrent treatment, such as sulfur soap or benzoyl peroxide is also recommended. Rubbing while washing can help disrupt biofilms, thus increasing antiseptic accessibility to bacteria.

Patients who shave affected areas only once will generally have a recurrence of infection, because, bacteria begin to develop concretely once again when hair grows back.

Corynebacterium infection is associated with excessive sweating; for this reason, deodorants containing aluminum chloride solution can be used for treatment and prevention.

Maintaining good local hygiene is highly recommended.
